چکیده

A 2-walk of a graph is a walk visiting every vertex at least once and at most twice. By generalizing decompositions of Tutte and Thomassen, Gao, Richter and Yu proved that every 3-connected planar graph contains a closed 2-walk such that all vertices visited twice are contained in 3separators. This seminal result generalizes Tutte’s theorem that every 4-connected planar graph is Hamiltonian as well as Barnette’s theorem that every 3-connected planar graph has a spanning tree with maximum degree at most 3. The algorithmic challenge of finding such a closed 2-walk is to overcome big overlapping subgraphs in the decomposition, which are also inherent in Tutte’s and Thomassen’s decompositions. We solve this problem by extending the decomposition of Gao, Richter and Yu in such a way that all pieces, in which the graph is decomposed into, are edge-disjoint. This implies the first polynomial-time algorithm that computes the closed 2-walk mentioned above. 1998 ACM Subject Classification G.2.2 Graph algorithms

Parallelizing Assignment Problem with DNA Strands

Background:Many problems of combinatorial optimization, which are solvable only in exponential time, are known to be Non-Deterministic Polynomial hard (NP-hard). With the advent of parallel machines, new opportunities have been emerged to develop the effective solutions for NP-hard problems. However, solving these problems in polynomial time needs massive parallel machines and ...

Computing Vertex PI, Omega and Sadhana Polynomials of F12(2n+1) Fullerenes

The topological index of a graph G is a numeric quantity related to G which is invariant under automorphisms of G. The vertex PI polynomial is defined as PIv (G)  euv nu (e)  nv (e). Then Omega polynomial (G,x) for counting qoc strips in G is defined as (G,x) = cm(G,c)xc with m(G,c) being the number of strips of length c. In this paper, a new infinite class of fullerenes is constructed. ...

Tenacity and some other Parameters of Interval Graphs can be computed in polynomial time

In general, computation of graph vulnerability parameters is NP-complete. In past, some algorithms were introduced to prove that computation of toughness, scattering number, integrity and weighted integrity parameters of interval graphs are polynomial. In this paper, two different vulnerability parameters of graphs, tenacity and rupture degree are defined. In general, computing the tenacity o...

Determination of a Matrix Function in the Form of f(A)=g(q(A)) Where g(x) Is a Transcendental Function and q(x) Is a Polynomial Function of Large Degree Using the Minimal Polynomial

Matrix functions are used in many areas of linear algebra and arise in numerical applications in science and engineering. In this paper, we introduce an effective approach for determining matrix function f(A)=g(q(A)) of a square matrix A, where q is a polynomial function from a degree of m and also function g can be a transcendental function. Computing a matrix function f(A) will be time- consu...

Determinant: Old Algorithms, New Insights

In this paper we approach the problem of computing the characteristic polynomial of a matrix from the combinatorial viewpoint. We present several combinatorial characterizations of the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial in terms of walks and closed walks of different kinds in the underlying graph. We develop algorithms based on these characterizations and show that they tally with we...

Algebraic Diagonals and Walks: Algorithms, Bounds, Complexity

The diagonal of a multivariate power series F is the univariate power series Diag F generated by the diagonal terms of F . Diagonals form an important class of power series; they occur frequently in number theory, theoretical physics and enumerative combinatorics. We study algorithmic questions related to diagonals in the case where F is the Taylor expansion of a bivariate rational function. It...
